AIDS WALK VOLUNTEERS
AIDS Walk Long Beach
is the largest AIDS fundraising event in Long Beach. Men, women and
children of all ages, races and backgrounds come together as a
demonstration of unity in seeking to end the suffering caused by
HIV/AIDS. Thousands of volunteers and walkers will gather at The
Pike at Rainbow Harbor on Saturday, June 20, 2009. The work,
however, starts early in the year and volunteers are a critical
component to the success of AIDS Walk Long Beach.

HOW TO GET
INVOLVED
Our biggest
needs are volunteers in the months proceeding AIDS Walk Long Beach.
While it does take a lot
of preparation to plan, organize, develop marketing and advertising
strategies, all volunteers are welcome. Many future
leaders in our
community are mentored and developed through this organization.
Whether you prefer to
collate mailings, chat with participants on the phone or encourage
participants on their goals, or whether you're looking for a
relaxing evening activity or a challenging project tailored to your
skills, there is a place for everyone at the Foundation office.
Please take the time to fill out the online volunteer form so we can
contact you and find your ideal activity.
Currently we are
looking for volunteers for all pre-event activities. In the month of
May, we'll begin registering volunteers for the day of the Walk.
Please let us know on the volunteer form if you'd like us to contact
you.
Urgent Need:
Pre-Event Planning Volunteers Needed:
It takes thousands of
volunteer hours just to plan AIDS Walk Long Beach. In fact,
pre-planning volunteers are the most important team in getting the
event to come together. Some
of these positions require a couple hours of training and many
require meetings and a regular schedule. If you're unemployed
this is a great opportunity to continue building your resume.
When employers begin hiring again, they'll be picking the "cream of
the crop" with community service in the beginning. A definite
advantage over someone with similar qualifications, don't you think?
Training dates and times are listed
as applicable. The following volunteer opportunities are available:

VOLUNTEER HOURS
The AIDS Walk needs
volunteer assistance in the office during office hours. Whether you
can donate 4 hours or 8 hours, the office hours are 10AM to 9PM,
Monday to Friday, during the months of January through July.
However, during the months of July through December our needs are
limited to 9AM to 5PM. The office is generally not open on Saturday
and Sunday, but we do have canvassing opportunities on some
weekends.
GROUPS
Groups of all sizes
and ages are welcome on the day of the AIDS Walk, in the office and
to assist with canvassing. Please call our office at (562) 987-5200
so we can find something just right for your group. Volunteers
under the age of 18 do require permission from their parents.
INTERNSHIPS
Full or
part-time internships are available. We tailor internships to the
individual's skills and have positions related to public relations,
outreach, event operations and volunteer organizing. This is a great
opportunity to learn more about the community we serve and apply
them toward your degree or research papers. For more information see
the
listings on our website
or contact.
